After graduating from Exeter University with a degree in law in 1996, Colin Mitchell returned to train in his home county of Dorset and qualified as a solicitor in 1999. Since then, Colin has worked for several well-known Dorset high-street firms, gaining a wealth of experience in all aspects of Family Law. He joined Harold G Walker Solicitors in November 2017 as a family solicitor and since the summer of 2020 has been Head of the Family Department.
As a family solicitor, Colin is a member of Resolution (the UK’s leading family lawyer’s organization) and has trained as a Collaborative Family Lawyer which enables him to adopt a holistic approach to family dispute resolution. Most importantly, Colin helps couples move on from their relationship breakdown in a positive and constructive manner, often involving other specialists, such as pension experts, financial advisers, and counsellors to assist his clients.
However, whilst going to court is a last resort, Colin recognises that taking a case to the Family Court is sometimes necessary especially when a robust legal approach must be taken. When this option is required, Colin will often undertake advocacy himself and also work with local barristers to achieve the best outcome for his clients.
Based in the Broadstone office, Colin also covers the West Dorset area (including Wimborne, Poole & the Purbecks), supported by the rest of his team who cover the East Dorset & Hampshire areas. He regularly attends the Harold G Walker legal advice clinics to assist the needs of prospective clients within the community.
Outside of work, Colin enjoys spending time with his family and walking their pet dog in the Purbecks and along local beaches.
