This year one of our Partners, Simon Nethercott, will be taking part in the Front Line Walk which will take place for 3 days from the 13th to the 15th of October.
The Front Line Walk is a 100km walking challenge, organised by the Army Benevolent Fund, which helps veteran soldiers and their dependents who have fallen on hard times.
It’s a gruelling walk, about 23 miles each day, that takes place in the Battlefields of the Somme, Arras/Vimy Ridge, and Passchendaele/Ypres, to pay tribute to those who fought in WW1 over 100 years ago. Simon’s late grandfather, who was awarded the Military Cross, fought on the Somme as did one of his wife’s ancestors who was the most highly decorated soldier of WW1, Captain Noel Chavasse, being awarded the Victoria Cross twice (see photo).
Simon has completed this event twice previously describing it as “hard but rewarding” and to date has raised £5,000 for ABF The Soldiers’ Charity. As he feels so passionately about such a worthy cause, Simon funds all his own travel and accommodation expenses, so any money raised goes directly to the charity.
