Power Attorney refund scheme
It has been established that the Office of Public Guardian’s (OPG) operating costs to deal with registering Lasting Powers of Attorney or Enduring Powers of Attorney were lower than anticipated and the Government has advised that refunds are being offered to those who may have been charged more than was necessary to apply to register the documents between 1 April 2013 and 31 March 2017.
This does not relate to the legal costs incurred in preparing or registering the documents but only the registration fee paid to the OPG to register the documents. The refunds range from £45 to £54 depending on the date that you paid the fee.
If you think you are eligible for the Power of Attorney refund scheme, you will need to personally apply by contacting the OPG directly by:

- Helpline 0300 456 0300 (choose option 6)
The OPG will be able to guide you through the refund process. Unfortunately, Harold G Walker is unable to assist you with this as the legal costs in helping you will exceed the refund. However, they wish to ensure that anyone who may be entitled is made aware of the possibility of a refund claim.
