The recent BBC Panorama Investigates exposed worrying practices at some national Estate Agencies. It investigates claims of conditional selling and dubious referral arrangements for both mortgages and conveyancing services.
During their undercover investigation the reporter found evidence that prospective purchasers were favoured by the agent if they planned to take out additional in-house services, including conveyancing and mortgages. There was evidence that people were pushed towards conveyancing services provided by affiliated organisations ‘because it made more money for the company’.
